Ericsson and Apple sign global patent license agreement, settle litigation

Ericsson and Apple have agreed on a global patent license agreement between the two companies. The agreement includes a cross license that covers patents relating to both companies' standard-essential patents (including the GSM, UMTS and LTE cellular standards), and grants certain other patent rights. In addition, the agreement includes releases that resolve all pending patent-infringement litigation between the companies.                          

European Commission to support IoT development

European Commission announces a “Call for Proposals on Internet of Things (IoT) Large Scale Pilots (LSPs)” to encourage the development of IoT in Europe and enable the emergence of IoT ecosystems supported by open technologies and platforms. The call ends on 12/04/2016.

5G standards - work already in progress

The EU 5G Public Private Partnership (5G PPP) represents a investment of €3.5bn, including €700m of public funding. Phase 1 of the 5G PPP project should result in the first contributions to international standardisation as well as the preparation of the World Radiocommunications Conference 2019.
