A study by the Center of Law and Information Policy and funded by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), entitled "Patents and small participants in the smatphone industry" concludes that:
"Patents are an important tool for small players entering the smartphone market. With a few patents, small participants gain access to the market through financing that results from their increased attractiveness to investors as compared to the startup industry in general (...) These are all positive indicators that patent rights are providing incentives for innovation among entry participants and small industry players".
This is another demonstration of the importance of patents in the innovation process. All attempt to reduce patent protection will harm the european innovation.
